During the previous legislative term (2009-2014) we saw an unprecedented overhaul of the regulatory framework that governs the financial industry. What are the main challenges for the new legislative term? What is left to be done? How can we tackle any possible problems arising from the measure taken such as incoherence between directives and unintended consequences? Do we need an extensive review or will some fine-tuning of the existing regulation be enough?

Europe is an important part of the global financial system. In the wake of the financial crisis, similar regulatory changes as those made here in Europe have also been made in other major jurisdictions. Even though the reforms generally share the same objectives the regulatory differences causes legal duplications and uncertainties. How can this be avoided? Is outcome based mutual recognition a way forward? Should we take a multilateral or bilateral approach?
