Senior Fellow, Bruegel
Rebecca Christie is a senior fellow at Bruegel, the Brussels-based economic policy think tank. She writes and speaks publicly about EU politics, financial regulation, tax and climate finance issues. Previously, she was the lead author on "Safeguarding the Euro in Times of Crisis", the official history of the European Stability Mechanism, and worked for more than 20 years as an economics and politics correspondent for Bloomberg News, Dow Jones/The Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times.

Markus joined the payments team of DG FISMA in June 2021. He started his career in the Austrian Ministry of Finance. As Financial Services Attaché, he was involved in the negotiations on PSD2 and all dossiers related to financial services for almost seven years. Before joining the European Commission, he worked in the private sector and the Single Resolution Board.

Steve Ryan is currently a senior expert in the retail financial services unit in the Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services & Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA) of the European Commission. Before that, he was deputy head of the anti-money laundering unit and of the insurance and pensions unit. Previously, he worked in DG Competition on antitrust investigations in the financial services field. He studied at Oxford University and at the French Ecole Nationale d’Administration, and served as a UK civil servant and diplomat before joining the European Commission.

Elie Beyrouthy is Vice President of European Government Affairs at American Express since June 2017 where he leads the company’s engagement with European Union Institutions and advises senior leaders on EU regulatory and public policy matters. Elie Beyrouthy also represents American Express’ interests in several EU trade bodies and professional associations. Prior to joining American Express, Elie Beyrouthy was Director of International Regulatory Affairs at Western Union for 5 years. From 2007 to 2012, Elie Beyrouthy held leadership positions at the World Savings Banks Institute and the European Banking Federation. Elie Beyrouthy began his career as an intern at the European Commission and the United States Federal District Court of Minnesota. He holds two Masters Degrees in Law from the University of Minnesota and from the Jean Moulin University in Lyon - France. Elie Beyrouthy also holds a diploma from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Lyon – France.

Senior Adviser Payment Systems, European Association of Co-operative Banks
Farid Aliyev, in his role as Senior Adviser for Payment Systems at the European Association of Co-operative Banks (EACB), represents the interests of cooperative banks across Europe in the realm of payments policies. He closely follows a diverse range of legislative and non-legislative subjects, including the regulation on instant payments, the ongoing revision of PSD2, the digital euro initiative, and the SEPA Payment Accounts Access Scheme. His engagement extends to participation in various expert groups of the European Payments Council and the Euro Retail Payments Board. Farid is a current member of the European Commission’s expert group on payments. Farid has extensive experience in EU public affairs within the finance and payments sector. Hepreviously advocated for European consumer interests in retail finance and payments and worked in the public banking sector prior to his current role at the EACB.
CEO, TrueLayer EU
Joe Morley is CEO of TrueLayer’s European business, based in Dublin. He is responsible for operations and commercial expansion across the EU, including regulatory compliance and strategic policy regarding payments in Europe. He is a former WhatsApp and Facebook executive with over 30 years experience in building and scaling technology companies globally, with a focus on API platforms and payments. Prior to TrueLayer, he launched the monetisation of the WhatsApp platform in EMEA, including the payments project for Western Europe. At Facebook he launched and managed the business APIs for the monetisation of the Facebook and Instagram platforms in EMEA, APAC and LATAM. Originally a product designer by profession, he holds an MBA from the IE in Madrid and is a qualified Director of the Institute of Directors in the UK and Ireland. He currently holds the Central Bank of Ireland pre-approved control functions of Chief Executive and Executive Director. He is also a board member of the Open Finance Association.
Financial Services Officer, BEUC
Anna Martin is Financial Services Officer at BEUC, the European Consumer Organisation. She is in charge of retail banking, working among other files on the review of the Payment Service Directive 2, Instant Payments and the digital euro. Before joining BEUC, she worked for the German Foreign Office in the team coordinating the German EU Council Presidency. Anna holds a Master in European Affairs from the College of Europe, Sciences Po Lille and the University of Münster.
